Professional Hardwood Flooring Installation in Southwest Florida
For nearly 40 years, Wayne Wiles Floor Coverings has helped homeowners across Fort Myers, Naples, Cape Coral, Bonita Springs, and Punta Gorda transform their spaces with magnificent, high-quality hardwood flooring.
Whether you are capturing the casual elegance of a coastal contemporary estate in Naples, upgrading a Key West-style home in Cape Coral, or renovating a classic Mediterranean villa in Fort Myers, hardwood brings timeless warmth and undeniable prestige to any living space. However, real wood can be especially unforgiving in sub-tropical Florida if installed incorrectly.
Without adherence to strict hardwood floor installation standards, heavy humidity and subfloor ground moisture can cause beautiful planks to cup, crown, or buckle over time. Trusting your new professional hardwood flooring installation with Wayne Wiles Floor Coverings means your investment stays stunning, flat, and durable for decades to come.

Keys to Hardwood Installation in Florida
Installing hardwood in Southwest Florida is vastly different from installing it in other regions of the country. Almost all homes in Fort Myers, Naples, and Cape Coral are constructed on concrete ground slabs, which naturally absorb groundwater and atmospheric humidity. To guarantee your new hardwood floor never cups, warps, or separates, our team strictly adheres to four critical Florida installation protocols:
- Rigorous Concrete Slab Moisture Testing
Before laying down adhesive or underlayment, we conduct comprehensive concrete slab moisture testing. Even if a concrete foundation feels bone-dry to the touch, ambient water vapor constantly migrates upward through the slab. We measure relative humidity levels inside the concrete to ensure the slab meets strict industry dryness tolerances.
- Strict Subfloor Leveling Requirements
Southwest Florida homes frequently suffer from uneven concrete slabs caused by settling or minor surface imperfections. A floor laid over dips or high spots will feel springy, creak, or eventually separate. We strictly enforce industry subfloor leveling requirements by sanding down high points and pouring self-leveling compounds into low spots to create an ultra-flat, rock-solid foundation.
- High-Performance Vapor Barrier Underlayment & Adhesives
Ground moisture from Florida’s intense rainy season will destroy hardwood if not blocked. We specify heavy-duty elastomeric moisture barriers and specialized commercial-grade adhesives. Using a high-grade vapor barrier underlayment seals off the slab, preventing ground moisture and ambient humidity from rising into the underside of your wood planks.
- Dedicated Wood Flooring Acclimation Time
Wood is a natural, living material that expands and contracts with changes in humidity and temperature. Jumping straight from the delivery truck to the floor is a recipe for disaster. We build in dedicated wood flooring acclimation time, allowing the planks to rest safely inside your climate-controlled home so they can stabilize to your specific indoor air conditions before installation.

Not when installed by Wayne Wiles Floor Coverings! Creaks, dips, and springy floors occur when hardwood is laid over an uneven subfloor. Before installing your new planks, our installation specialists perform a thorough slab inspection to meet precise subfloor leveling requirements. We mechanical-sand any high spots and fill low spots using high-strength self-leveling underlayment to create a completely flat, quiet foundation that eliminates floor movement and noise.
Not if your hardwood installation is properly protected against moisture. Southwest Florida’s summer rainy season brings extreme humidity and elevated groundwater levels. To safeguard your investment, we perform mandatory concrete slab moisture testing prior to installation. By verifying moisture emission rates beforehand, we guarantee that your subfloor is fully compliant and ready for hardwood installation without risk of seasonal damage.
We prevent ground moisture intrusion by combining premium moisture-suppression adhesives with high-performance vapor barrier underlayment systems specifically engineered for Florida’s climate. Creating a continuous protective layer will act as an impermeable shield between your concrete slab and the wood, blocking vapor drive and protecting your hardwood from cupping, buckling, or delaminating.
Respecting the necessary wood flooring acclimation time is one of the most vital steps in Florida hardwood installation. We store the wood inside your home’s running air conditioning (between 60°F and 80°F with 35%–55% relative humidity) for several days prior to installation. The internal moisture content of the wood planks will reach equilibrium with your indoor environment, preventing future shrinking, gapping, or swelling after the floor is nailed or glued down.
